The members were recently treated to a special golf evening at Lanhydrock Golf and Country Club. 10 members braved the chilly evening to be taught by the PGA professional Richard O’Hanlon. This turned out to be quite a tall order as some members had very little experience but fortunately Richard started the proceedings with a quick overview of the basics such as grip, stance, swing and most importantly, what direction to whack the balls!

Everyone had a great evening irrespective of their level of skill and especially enjoyed the chipping competition at the end of the session which all would agree (although maybe not mention too loudly) was won by Laura Mackenzie who has only being playing golf for a few short months!

Another evening is being planned in the summer where Richard has offered to venture out onto the fairways to give more tuition and describe some of the finer points of golf etiquette.

Thanks to Richard O’Hanlon and Sam (his trusty apprentice) for their patience and humour trying to teach us all at the same time.

Just a quick note to mention that both myself (Jock Turner) and The MCBG Chairman (Phil Evely) will be putting our heads together over the next month or so to finalise plans for a charity event to be held in the Spring. We think some sort of Casino Evening will be quite fun so are looking into how and where we can run one – in Mid Cornwall.

If you know of anyone else who has organised something similar, please contact us.

Please watch this space for announcements over the next month or so.

Well it’s been a great start to 2012. The Group has settled in well to our new location at Kingsley Village and have been made to feel very welcome. All the members comment about the quality of the breakfasts which are always hot, tasty and plentiful (sometimes a little too hot – yes, I’m talking about the beans!). As well as the great breakfasts the facilities suit the Group perfectly. The room is large, airy, well lit and acoustically perfect for meetings. Plus there is the whitescreen and projector linked to great sound system (when I remember to plug it in!) which all adds to the quality of the meetings.

We are pleased to announce several new members joining us over the last month or so – D&D Garden Supplies (Dave and Dan – and no, I still don’t really know who is who!), have been a great addition to the Group and have already picked up quite a few new clients and friends from joining. Their presentation recently was a masterpiece in teamwork and planning – Just like their gardening work! Then Clive from Clive Harrison Carpets and Blinds has decided to join. Based quite locally Clive has found the Group to be a great way of getting to know other businesses in Mid Cornwall. He too has received several new referrals over the last month. Finally Mike Roberts from Cornwall Traditional Cottages has come on board. He too is finding the Group to be very beneficial and we can all see already that he is going to be a very valuable member of the Group.

So spirits are high and so are the number of referrals – already higher than the whole of last December and November!

The Group is getting back to full strength again and as always we are looking for new members in particular fields of expertise. If you are reading this now and are one of those types of business or know of one that might be interested in joining, please contact us. We would be really pleased to hear form you.

Yes, the Mid Cornwall Business Group has now moved it’s meeting place to Kingsley Village near Fraddon, just off the A30.

The Group took the decision to move to a more central location from St Austell to Kingsley Village in an attempt to encourage more businesses to join – especially from the North Cornwall area. The venue is very suitable for the group with all the usual conferencing facilities that the group requires, plus the breakfasts are lovely too!

So, if you own a business that you think would be perfect for our Group and you can commit a couple of hours every week to the meetings, please don’t hesitate to get in touch by completing the contact form and leaving us your details. We’d love to see you there.
