The Mid Cornwall Business Group is aiming to raise £3000 towards a new defibrillator for Cornwall Air Ambulance. In the first of a series of fundraising events, the group of local business owners took part in a ‘Healthy Hearts’ day on 7th April, where members of the group were offered a health assessment by Alison Presswell from Carlyon Bay Occupational Health.
The assessment included height and weight check with calculation of body mass index, along with a blood pressure measurement and finger prick cholesterol test. With more than 1 in 3 deaths each year in the UK being due to cardiovascular disease such as heart disease or stroke, the aim of the event was for Alison to raise awareness amongst group members of any potential risks to their cardiovascular health, and to advise them on appropriate action to take. In return for health assessments, donations were collected toward the defibrillator fund. By the second part of the event on 14th April, the group will have raised £150.
